President Dr Mohamed Waheed has appealed to all authoritative institutions and personnel in the government, to be vigilant of a system that would ensure a just, fair and equitable governance in the Maldives.

The President made this appeal while addressing the people of Feydhoo Island, as part of his current tour of some islands in the Miladhummadulu Atoll. The President said that democracy was established in the Maldives so that the people’s needs are fulfilled, and a fair government is ensured.

In his speech, the President assured that he would continue to put in every effort to realize the needs of the people, and that a good governance system would be established only when the public’s voice is heard, and their needs met. Continuing in this regard, President Waheed said that the purpose of his visits to the island communities was to meet the people, and enquire their concerns.

The President also assured the people that the government would provide its services to all the people equally, without discrimination, noting that it was an obligation by religion and our legal system. He further spoke of the government’s duty to safeguard public finances and assets, and to work for the benefit of the people.

As part of his visit to the island, the President laid the foundation for the new mosque and the new government school to be built in Feydhoo.
