The cabinet has today decided to declare the Equatorial Convention Centre area, and “Hankede” area of Addu City, as two uninhabited areas. The decision was made at today’s cabinet meeting, following deliberations on a paper presented by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

The paper was submitted in regard to a decree proposed by the Addu City Council, moving to affirm the Equatorial Convention Centre area and “Hankede” area as uninhabited.

The government had previously decided to develop a 100-bed City Hotel in the Equatorial Convention Centre area. Furthermore, the construction of a resort in “Hankede” area had also been decided, of which work is currently underway.
