President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Uz Abdul Azeez Jamaal Abu-Bakur as the new Information Commissioner, following the completion of the previous commissioner’s term.
The appointment was made in accordance with Article 44(d) of the Right to Information Act (Act No. 1/2014), after his nomination was submitted to the People’s Majlis and approved by Parliament.
Uz Abdul Azeez Jamaal Abu-Bakur has a distinguished record of public service. He previously served as Information Commissioner from 2014 to 2019 and has held several senior government positions, including Minister of State for Islamic Affairs.
Most recently, he served as Minister of State for Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage.
