H.E. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu attended the Opening Ceremony of the World Leaders Summit, hosted by the Presidency of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as part of the Twenty-Eighth Session of the Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).
The President was accompanied at the opening ceremony by the Minister of Climate Change, Environment, and Energy, H.E. Thoriq Ibrahim and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E Moosa Zameer.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is scheduled to deliver the National Statement at the World Leaders Summit later today, marking his first major address on a global platform since assuming office two weeks ago.
For the Maldives, COP28 holds significant importance as it provides an opportunity to discuss the country's ambitions for global sustainable development and adaptation for climate change mitigation.
COP28 is taking place in Dubai, UAE from November 30–December 12, 2023. The conference is expected to convene over 70,000 participants, including heads of state, government officials, international industry leaders, private sector representatives, academics, experts, youth, and non-state actors.
