The Vice President of the Republic of Türkiye, H.E. Cevdet Yilmaz, paid a courtesy call on H.E. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Monday. The meeting was held at the Presidential Complex in Ankara.

During the call, the Vice President of Türkiye welcomed President Dr Muizzu and congratulated him on his assumption of office. They noted the close relations between the two countries and exchanged views on areas for further collaboration between Türkiye and the Maldives

President Dr Muizzu briefed the Turkish Vice President on the Maldivian government's ambitious development program and outlined the measures planned to accomplish its objectives.

They also expressed concerns over the lack of international response to Israel's indiscriminate attacks against Palestinian civilians in Gaza. They reiterated the Maldives and Turkey's strong support for the People of Palestine in their rightful pursuit of an independent, sovereign state of Palestine.

Concluding the call, President Dr Muizzu and the Turkish Vice President reiterated their commitment to further strengthening the long-standing friendship between the two nations. Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Türkiye were established on May 28, 1979.

President Dr Muizzu is currently on an official visit to Türkiye at the invitation of the Turkish President. First Lady Sajidha Mohamed and a high-level Maldivian delegation comprising senior government officials are accompanying the President on the visit.
