First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has stated that enhancing women's capabilities forms the very foundation of nation-building and development, while serving as the bedrock of happiness and harmony within families and society.
Speaking as the guest of honour at the graduation ceremony of the 'Viluntheri Kanbalun' training programme, she added that the resilience of Maldivian women has always been, and will remain, an indispensable attribute vital to the progress of the nation.
The First Lady described women as an integral part of the nation's social fabric. She affirmed that women's meaningful participation must be fostered at every level and across every field of nation-building, stressing the importance of conducting programmes that create pathways and expand such opportunities for them.
Reflecting on Islamic history, the First Lady noted that Islam has established justice between women and men, offering countless examples of women playing active roles across various spheres of life. Looking at the Maldives through this historical lens, she described Maldivian women as particularly fortunate and highlighted examples of their contributions.
Recalling how Islamic history calls upon women to strengthen the Ummah, uphold the dignity of society, and embody resilience, good character, and valuable skills, she reiterated that the vision, dedication, and expertise of Maldivian women will continue to be vital to national progress.
She further noted that preserving these balanced cultural values while empowering women to build intellectual and practical resilience presents the nation with a truly historic opportunity.
At the ceremony, the First Lady presented certificates to more than 170 graduates from eight batches of the programme and joined them in a commemorative group photograph. She also took part in a commemorative photo with students from the Mohamed Qasim Preschool band following their performance at the event.
The 'Viluntheri Kanbalun' training programme was conducted jointly by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and the Maldives Institute of Technology (MIT), with the primary objective of empowering women in technical fields, fostering self-reliance, and building self-confidence.
