President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a message of sympathy to Sri Lankan President, H.E. Mahinda Rajapaksa, following the deadly mudslide in Badulla district of Sri Lanka.
The President’s message reads as follows:
“The Government and the people of the Maldives and I are deeply shocked to learn about the deadly mudslide in Badulla district, causing the loss of many innocent lives and grievous injury to many more, as well as irrevocable damage to property and infrastructure. While the search for survivors continues, we pray that, of those that remain unaccounted for so far, more victims can be saved.”
“At this time of tragedy, the Government and the people of the Maldives join me in conveying our profound sympathy to Your Excellency, the Government and the friendly people of Sri Lanka. I pray that the rescue and recovery operations being carried out in connection with the disaster go well and all those affected be given strength during this tragedy. The Government and the people of the Maldives stand in solidarity with you and the people of Sri Lanka, in coming to terms with this tragedy.”
