President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a message of sympathy ‎‎to Sri Lankan President, H.E. Mahinda Rajapaksa, following the ‎deadly ‎mudslide in Badulla district of Sri Lanka. ‎

The President’s message reads as follows:‎

‎“The Government and the people of the Maldives and I are deeply ‎shocked to learn about the deadly mudslide in Badulla district, causing the ‎loss of many innocent lives and grievous injury to many more, as well as ‎irrevocable damage to property and infrastructure. While the search for ‎survivors continues, we pray that, of those that remain unaccounted for so ‎far, more victims can be saved.”‎

‎“At this time of tragedy, the Government and the people of the Maldives ‎join me in conveying our profound sympathy to Your Excellency, the ‎Government and the friendly people of Sri Lanka. I pray that the rescue ‎and recovery operations being carried out in connection with the disaster ‎go well and all those affected be given strength during this tragedy. The ‎Government and the people of the Maldives stand in solidarity with you ‎and the people of Sri Lanka, in coming to terms with this tragedy.”‎

‎“Please also convey our sincere condolences to the members of the ‎bereaved families.”‎
