Vice President Mohamed Waheed Deen has said that the service of everyone who had worked at the Voice of Maldives over the past 50 years, show the love they have for the country. He made this remark while speaking at the function held to mark the 50th anniversary of Voice of Maldives. The function was held last evening at Dharubaaruge.
Vice President said said the people who had worked at VoM over the past 50 years had created greater awareness among the people on diverse issues. He, therefore, expressed appreciation to all the current and past employees of VoM.
In his remarks, the Vice President noted the pioneering efforts of Ibrahim Nasir, who was the Prime Minster at that time, in starting radio services in the Maldives. He also spoke on the contributions of President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom in developing and modernising the VoM.
Commemorative plaques and awards of honour in recognition of long service to VoM were also presented at the function. Awards of honour to four individuals who had rendered very special services to VoM were presented by the Vice President. The four individuals were Ibrahim Maniku, Badhuru Naseer, Maizan Ahmed Maniku and Kondey Ali Maniku. Vice President also presented award posthumously to late Ismail Haleem who was killed on November 3, 1988.
At the function, Vice President also launched the book entitled Voice of Maldives - 50 years of national service.
