President Dr Mohamed Waheed has called upon the people to minimise the conflicts among us, to lessen political colours all around us, and to raise the national flag and national colours above all voices. The President made this appeal while addressing the people of Dhevvadhoo, as part of his current visit to some islands in Gaafu Alifu Atoll.
Speaking in this regard, the President said that today, the facilitation of a better life for the people, and development of the island was needed more that the different political views among us.
In his speech, the President said that during his visits to different islands, one of the mostly heard voices was that the people were not provided basic facilities like clean drinking water, efficient sewerage systems, or a developed harbour.
The President noted that although these public services were the basic rights of the people, so far in most islands, the services were not provided properly. Stressing the fiscal burden of establishing suitable public services, the President assured that the government puts in every effort to provide for the people what they needed, as much as fiscally possible.
Saying that democracy was nothing without advanced development, the President said that democracy is brought not to take away the basic things away from the people, but to bring about development they desire.
