President Dr Mohamed Waheed this evening departed on an official trip to China, to attend the China-Euroasia Expo 2012. During this trip, the President will be accompanied by First Lady Madam Ilham Hussain.
The President will deliver a speech at the opening ceremony of the expo, and also meet with the Premier of China, Wen Jiabao during his visit.
Meeting the local media at the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport prior to his departure, the President said that the main purpose of this visit was to meet with the leadership of China, in order to facilitate acquiring assistance in the different areas of need for the Maldives. In this regard, the President said that work would be especially focused on marketing the Maldives’ tourism in China.
President Waheed further said that the agreement for 150 million dollars from EXIM Bank of China, and the agreement for China’s grant-in-aid for the Maldives will also be signed as part of this visit.
