Ambassador of Sweden accredited to the Maldives Lars-Olof Lindgren has paid a farewell call on President Dr Mohamed Waheed.
At the meeting held at the President’s Office this morning, President Waheed spoke on the history of the Maldives’ struggle towards establishing a democracy.
Highlighting the transfer of presidential power on 7 February, the President shared with the Ambassador, the measures being taken by the government in combating the challenges faced. Further, the President briefed Ambassador Lindgren on the progress of the National Inquiry Commission.
At the meeting, the Swedish Ambassador said that democracy was not built in one day, and that a young democracy like the Maldives takes time to solidify. The Ambassador also noted the importance of strengthening all government and independent institutions.
