President Dr Mohamed Waheed has today met with the Governor of Maharashtra Kateekal Sankaranarayanan, and the Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, as part of his current visit to the state of Maharashtra, India.
At the meeting the President discussed with the officials, plans to introduce a joint tourism package between Maldives and Maharashtra, especially in Mumbai. Discussions were also held on resuming direct flights between the Maldives and Mumbai, and the expansion of the fishing, meteorology, and ocean technology industries in the Maldives.
At the meeting, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra invited a high level delegation representing social and monetary institutions in the Maldives, to visit the state, and hold discussions on areas to further develope cooperation between the two countries. The Chief Minister also said that work would commence immediately, through the office of the Maldivian Honorary Consul in Mumbai, on the immediate steps to be taken in furthering collaboration.
At this meeting, President Waheed welcomed Maharashtrian investors to travel to Maldives, and to explore business opportunities beneficial to both countries.
