The cabinet today decided to develop domestic airports through Maldives Airports Company. The cabinet made this decision after discussing a paper submitted by the Ministry of Transport and Communication.

The cabinet decided to give special priority to develop airports in Funadhoo of Shaviyani atoll and Thimarafushi of Thaa.


Other cabinet decisions include:

• Harmonising issuance of licence to private clinics and allowing private clinics to provide Aasandha services, beginning from 15 May 2012

• Bringing all land and buildings that are meant to provide convenient services to the public, under the Ministry of Housing and Environment. These include land and buildings that are currently under Male City Council under the Decentralisation Act. In this regard, Dharubaaruge, which serves an important social and economic purpose, is to be brought under MHE.

• Brining all utilities companies under one company and establishing a specific company to provide decentralised utilities services to the islands.

• Bringing National Disaster Management Centre under the Ministry of Defence and National Security. NDMC has been under MHE.
