People of Mulaku, Kudahuvadhoo, and Nilandhoo welcome President Waheed’s Administration

The people of Mulaku of Meemu Atoll, Kudahuvadhoo of Dhaalu Atoll, and Nilandhoo of Faafu Atoll, have welcomed President Dr Mohamed Waheed’s government.

At separate meetings held at the President’s Office today, representatives from the islands met with the President and conveyed the peoples’ well wishes and support to the government. The representatives also expressed their gratitude to President Waheed for the role undertaken as the President, and requested the President not to go for an early election or resignation. The teams of representatives shared with the President, the problems being faced in the islands.

At the meeting with the representatives from Mulaku, the President expressed his appreciation to the island council, for their efforts in providing the basic necessities for the people, and assured that he would try everything possible in resolving the challenges faced today.

At the meeting held with the team from Kudahuvadhoo, President Waheed highlighted the challenges faced in today’s political climate, and said that he was determined to restore peace and harmony in the country. Speaking in this regard, the President expressed his distress over the involvement of students and underage children in the political activities taking place in the islands. The President stressed the danger of letting political influence reach schools and children.

The Kudahuvadhoo team welcomed the initiative taken by President Waheed in conducting an independent investigation into the circumstances that lead to the transfer of power. They also conveyed to the President, of the people’s hopes for developmental in the Kudahuvadhoo region, which they said, have been neglected in the past three years.

At the meeting, the President spoke of the government’s plans to administer the councils under a proper decentralized system, and assured the team that their issues would be looked into, and necessary measures would be taken.

Meeting the Nilandhoo team, President Waheed gave assurance that he would continue the economic reform work being done in the country, and said that his highest priority was to cool down the current political climate in the country.

The representatives from Nilandhoo requested for quicker solutions to the people’s concerns, and invited the President to visit Nilandhoo in the near future.
