President Dr Mohamed Waheed today announced Mohamed Waheeduddeen as his Vice Presidential nominee.
The announcement was made Wednesday during a press conference at the President’s Office. The President said that Mohamed Waheeduddeen’s name will be proposed to the parliament tomorrow for approval.
At the press conference, the President also shared with the public, his top priorities as the President.
Speaking at the press conference, the President noted that his highest concern was to restore peace, calm, and security.
Reaffirming his commitment to uphold the Constitution and the rule of law, President Waheed reiterated he would never give an unconstitutional or illegal order.
He noted that there was much work to be done to resolve the issues caused by political competitiveness, and to move forward towards unity and harmony.
Continuing in this regard, the President disclosed of his proposal for a roadmap to be drawn up, to work for peaceful resolution of the current issues. He also said that he would seek the opinion of all political parties in compiling the roadmap.
The President urged everyone to respect the need for calm and quiet on the streets of Male’, to engage in dialogue and to work with the government to move forward peacefully, instead of provoking conflict.
Speaking at the press conference, the Vice Presidential nominee Mohamed Waheeduddeen said that he accepted the nomination to fulfill a national duty. Referring to the recent events in the country, Waheeduddeen reassured the public that he would not let history to repeat itself.
