The special ceremony to confer the National Awards of Honour and National Awards of Recognition is to be held on the 27th November. The function will be held at 8.30 in the evening, at Dharubaaruge. In previous years, the National Awards were presented at the official Republic Day ceremony each year.
The National Award is conferred to individuals, private companies and non-government organizations, for their outstanding service to the public, who are selected by the National Awards Committee appointed by the President.
National Awards Committee is currently in the process of selection of recipients of this year’s National Awards. Nominations were opened on 1st June, and by 31st July a total of 102 nominations were received for 22 out of 28 categories in consideration.
