President Mohamed Nasheed has today inaugurated the Skills Training Programme “Hunaru”, which was announced in his Independence Day address this year.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the President noted that the major factor contributing to the escalation of youth unemployment was the lack of technical skills required for the various jobs in the labour market.
In his speech, President Nasheed reiterated on the government initiatives to create skilled youth and provide them with job opportunities, as pledged in the Maldivian Democratic Party’s manifesto.
The President also highlighted on the government’s plans to utilize its resources and train 8500 youth under “Hunaru” programme, in 57 different fields required for the current labour market.
Following the inauguration, the President advised participants of the programme, to be vigilant and regular in attending both training sessions and at their jobs in the working environment.
“Hunaru” programme, announced in President Nasheed’s address to the nation on this year’s Independence Day, aims at producing 8500 locals, who have been suitably and rigorously trained to meet the requirements for job opportunities available in the market currently.
