President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has renamed the Environmental Protection Agency to the Environmental Regulatory Authority, as formalised through Presidential Directive No. 14/2025.
This change is enacted in accordance with the powers vested in the President by Article 116(a) of the Constitution.
The institution will now operate directly under the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, moving away from its previous oversight by a governing board. This restructuring is designed to reflect the primary responsibilities of the institution more accurately while enhancing its capacity to regulate the environment effectively.
