President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the allocation of plots or flats under the Government’s social housing projects will be determined after considering the specific needs and circumstances of each island’s residents, in line with the principles set by the respective island councils. He reaffirmed that the Administration’s policy is to respect decisions made by the people.
The President made these remarks while meeting residents of B. Thulhaadhoo this morning, as part of his ongoing tour of Baa Atoll.
During the meeting, he confirmed the development of 100 new housing units for the island. He reiterated that, in allocating plots and flats, the Government will follow the principles and standards established by the island council, ensuring decisions reflect the realities and priorities of the local community.
He further assured that the Government will facilitate the privatisation of 119 reclaimed plots in Thulhaadhoo, as requested by residents.
Addressing the Thulhaadhoo Airport project inaugurated earlier today, President Dr Muizzu pledged that work on the airport would begin without delay and continue without interruption.
Highlighting Thulhaadhoo as the second-highest priority island in Baa Atoll’s regional development strategy, the President announced plans to strengthen the island’s health sector, including the introduction of specialist medical services at the health centre, with dedicated provision for women and children.
President Dr Muizzu began his four-day tour on Monday, during which he will visit all 13 inhabited islands in Baa Atoll. He is accompanied by several ministers and senior government officials.
