President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has officially launched PGO 2.0, the AI strategy and delivery programme of the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO).
The launch ceremony was held at Barceló Nasandhura Malé this morning.
The programme, which will be refined over the next two years, is guided by the PGO’s vision of becoming a sovereign, fully digital, ethical and transparent prosecution service by 2028, while ensuring that human rights are protected at every step.
‘Mafini’, the PGO’s case management system, will be further developed and strengthened through the integration of AI capabilities. These include a legal document analyser, summarisation and charge-drafting tools, an identity analyser, tamper-evident evidence features, and a citizen agent providing information on rights, procedural guidance, case status updates and guided access to services.
The programme prioritises the Dhivehi language and operates on infrastructure controlled by the Prosecutor General’s Office, ensuring that its systems and data remain under Maldivian sovereign control.
The PGO has assured that, while AI will empower the programme, every charging decision will remain the responsibility of a qualified prosecutor.
At today’s ceremony, the Prosecutor General’s Office also launched ‘Evidence: A Practitioner’s Guide’, the first comprehensive practitioner’s guide to evidence in the Maldives. The book was compiled by the PG Academy.
The PGO’s new website was also launched at today’s ceremony. The PGO stated that, with the launch of the new website, it has become fully compliant with Right to Information (RTI) requirements.
In addition, ‘eDhoroashi’, an online portal providing government institutions and the public with access to information and services offered by the Prosecutor General’s Office, and ‘Lethun’, an application serving as a central repository for laws, regulations, guidelines and appellate court rulings, were launched today.
The platforms were officially launched by Chief Justice Honourable Uz Abdul Ghanee Mohamed, Attorney General Uz Ahmed Usham and members of the Cabinet.
