President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has affirmed that increasing public awareness and strengthening measures to mitigate road traffic incidents and hazards in high-rise buildings are both a national duty and a shared civic responsibility.
In a message shared across his social media channels, President Dr Muizzu expressed profound grief over recent tragedies, including the passing of a young child from injuries sustained in a road collision and the fatal fall of an infant from a high-rise residence. He said the losses had deeply affected the nation and offered prayers for the deceased, asking for Divine mercy and eternal peace for their souls.
The President stressed that preventing residential and urban hazards requires a comprehensive, whole-of-community approach. He urged property owners, building managers and residents to ensure compliance with safety measures, particularly those relating to window restraints, balcony barriers and protective railings.
He also highlighted the importance of cooperation between families and facility administrators to protect vulnerable groups, including young children, persons with disabilities and individuals requiring specialised care or mental health support.
Concluding his message, President Dr Muizzu called on Government institutions, public enterprises, civil society organisations and the public to work together to prioritise urban safety. He also called for the swift development and implementation of structured public awareness programmes to strengthen safety standards nationwide.
