President Mohamed Nasheed has today visited Hiriyaa School and met with the students, teachers, and the school board and the families of the deceased in the tragic drowning incident in Kaafu Huraa, last Friday.

The President personally met with each family, and expressed his sincere condolences. He assured the families that the procedures and emergency action steps to be taken during an emergency, were being determined by the cabinet committee appointed last Tuesday, and that their work was in progress.

President Nasheed advised all the students to give importance to learning the initial action steps during an emergency, and to take full safety precautions in the future.

A student of the class, of which four students passed away in the tragic incident, thanked the President for personally meeting with the students. She also conveyed her gratitude, on behalf of the class, for the assistance and support provided by the Ministry of Education and the government.

President Nasheed urged heads of other schools, who were in attendance at Hiriyaa School today, to further review the procedures and rules for emergency actions to be taken at school activities.

Concluding his visit to Hiriyaa School, President Nasheed wrote in the books of condolences of the principal and four students, who passed away in the drowning incident.

The tragic accident happened while the students were at a school camp in Kaafu Huraa.
