President Mohamed Nasheed has welcomed President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s decision not to extend Sri Lanka’s state of emergency, which has been in place since 1983.
In a statement today, President Nasheed commended President Rajapaksa’s “bold and far sighted move”.
“Today’s announcement is an indication of President Rajapaksa’s and the Government of Sri Lanka’s commitment to move forward and rebuild the nation”, President Nasheed added.
