President Mohamed Nasheed has said sports and extra-curricular activities were as important as studies for the development a complete individual.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the ´Makita Junior Athletics Championship´ held in Thinadhoo from 21 to 24 March, the President said competitiveness, and etiquettes of winning and loosing were some of important lessons learned at schools. He said learning to loose was learning to be courageous in times of loss.

´Makita Junior Athletics Championship´ was competition open for schools from Addu City, Fuahmulah, and Huvadhu Atoll. 356 athletes from 13 schools in four atolls competed in this year´s championship.

During the closing ceremony, the President presented medals and trophies to winning athletes and schools.
