New Ambassador of Romania accredited to the Maldives, Valerica Epure, has presented her letter of credence to President Mohamed Nasheed today.

At the ceremony held at the President’s Office to present the credentials, the President congratulated Ambassador Epure.

During the meeting, the President said he was pleased that Romanian leaders were supportive of the Maldives in Copenhagen, at the COP16 climate debate in 2009.

The President updated the Ambassador on climate conditions in the Maldives and spoke on lobbying for solutions to climate change.

In particular, the President and Ambassador Epure discussed the ways in which the Maldives could benefit by allotting expatriate Romanian staff for the health and education sector.

The meeting was attended by Vice President Dr Mohamed Waheed, National Security Advisor Amin Faisal, and Advisor on Political Affairs Mohamed Shihab.
