His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended greetings to the President of the Republic of India, Her Excellency Droupadi Murmu, and the Prime Minister of the Republic of India, His Excellency Narendra Modi, on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day of India.

In separate letters, President Dr Muizzu extended warm greetings, on behalf of the Government and people of the Maldives, to the government and the friendly people of India.

In his letter to President Murmu, President Dr Muizzu highlighted the milestone as a testament to India’s democratic strength and socio-economic progress, while recognising India’s key role in advancing peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indian Ocean Region.

In his letter to Prime Minister Modi, the President expressed gratitude for India's continued support toward the Maldives' development and reaffirmed his commitment to deepening their multifaceted strategic partnership.

Concluding his letters, President Dr Muizzu conveyed his best wishes for the good health and wellbeing of both leaders, and for the continued progress and prosperity of the people of India.

The President reiterated these sentiments in a post on his official X account, noting that decades of independence reflect the aspirations, resilience and enduring spirit of the government and people of India.
