President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has met with the visiting Heads of Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and international delegates following the closing session of the SIDS-SAIs Symposium 2026 and the opening of the INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI) Global Summit 2026, held in AA. Ukulhas.
Speaking at the meeting, the President reaffirmed that accountability, transparency, and good governance remain the cornerstone pledges of his Administration. He highlighted ongoing legislative and institutional reforms aimed at eliminating illegal practices and establishing a corruption-free governance framework, noting the strong public support for these initiatives.
Elaborating on the Maldives 2.0 vision, the President outlined the Government's ambitious target of fully digitalising all public services within two years. He noted that the Maldives is enacting robust legal frameworks to enhance institutional efficiency while drawing on global best practices, including insights gained from Estonia's digital governance model.
The visiting delegates and international representatives commended the Maldives for its leadership and the successful organisation of the summit. They also praised Auditor General Hussain Niyazy and the Maldivian Government for championing the interests of small island states on global platforms. Delegates specifically highlighted the presence of Cabinet Ministers and senior Government officials at the summit, noting that it demonstrated genuine political will and a firm commitment to public oversight.
The President commended the Auditor General and the team at the Auditor General's Office for successfully hosting the summit in Ukulhas and providing international delegates with an authentic experience of Maldivian culture and island hospitality.
The meeting was attended by Auditor General Hussain Niyazy, representative of the Chair of INTOSAI Ms Manal Mohamed Khairy, Director General of IDI Mr Einar Gørrissen, and representative of UNDESA Ms Aránzazu Guillán Montero, alongside visiting Heads of SAIs from across the SIDS region.
