President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has decided that Independence Day will be observed without the official reception this year, consistent with last year’s arrangements.
The decision was made as part of the Government's ongoing measures to reduce State expenditure.
The official Independence Day ceremony will, however, proceed as scheduled. The ceremony will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Independence Day at the Maldives Centre for Social Education.
During the ceremony, President Dr Muizzu will address the nation.
