President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the Administration’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by nurses and prioritising their wellbeing through continued support for their professional and personal development.
He made the statement in a social media post observing International Nurses Day, extending his sincere appreciation to all nurses for their invaluable service to the nation.
Describing nursing as a cornerstone of sustainable healthcare, the President said the Administration has prioritized improving working conditions and benefits, strengthening policies, and expanding training opportunities to build a stronger, more resilient healthcare system for the future. He commended nurses for their indispensable role in patient care, recovery, disease prevention, and community wellbeing.
First Lady Sajidha Mohamed also honoured the work of nurses in her message marking International Nurses Day, stating that nurses’ resilience and professionalism were the heart of the healthcare system.
Reflecting on this year’s theme, “Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives,” she said it serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of supporting and investing in nurses through the promotion of preventive healthcare, the provision of safe and supportive working environments, and the creation of opportunities for continued professional development and leadership.
International Nurses Day is marked annually on 12 May.
