The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism of Sri Lanka, Honourable Vijitha Herath, MP, paid a courtesy call on His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu today, during the President’s ongoing State Visit to Sri Lanka.
During the call, the President and the Minister reflected on the six decades of formal diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, founded on shared values, mutual respect and friendship between their peoples. They reaffirmed commitment to continue engagement in pursuing avenues of cooperation for the mutual benefit of both countries.
Furthermore, they discussed strengthening relations in key development areas and enhancing collaboration in sectors such as environmental conservation, tourism and trade.
The President and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed are currently undertaking a State Visit to Sri Lanka at the invitation of His Excellency Anura Kumara Disanayaka, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, from 3 to 6 May 2026.
