President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has affirmed that all future appointments will be guided by meritocracy. The President made these remarks at a press briefing held at the President's Office today.

Referencing this month's referendum on synchronising presidential and parliamentary elections, the President indicated that he would introduce reform measures to the governance system accordingly. To this end, he committed to streamlining the Government and reducing expenditure, acknowledging that the public mandate favours a system built on merit. He further stated that political influence and personal recommendations must no longer play a role in recruitment for State-owned Enterprises.

Even in exercising the constitutional authority vested in him under Article 115, the President stated that he will hold the Administration to higher academic and professional standards. He indicated that even where appointments are unavoidable, specific benchmarks will apply: State Ministers will hold a Master's degree in the relevant field, and Deputy Ministers will hold a Bachelor’s-level qualification in the relevant field.

Concluding his remarks, the President reiterated that his Administration has always been driven by the aspirations of the people and expressed his dedication to maintaining this close connection with the citizens it serves.
