President Dr Mohamed Muizzu graced the groundbreaking ceremony for the first parking building to be developed in Hulhumalé Phase I, as part of the Administration’s efforts to deliver a long-term solution to parking challenges in the Greater Malé Area.

The ceremony, held this morning, was officiated by the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen, who laid the foundation stone for the project.

The 13-storey parking buiding will be developed over a 24-month period by Batch Construction Pvt Ltd under the name ‘NXT by Batch’, through the Private Sector Initiative Project (PSIP), in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation and the Housing Development Corporation (HDC). Designed as a state-of-the-art development, the building will have the capacity to accommodate over 800 cars and 500 motorcycles.

This marks the commencement of efforts to implement the plans outlined by President Dr Muizzu to address the challenges faced on the roads of the Greater Malé Area, including the increasing number of vehicles, the lack of available parking spaces, and the absence of garages for vehicle registration. Contracts for the construction of the remaining six facilities have been awarded to six Maldivian companies.

The development of parking facilities in the Greater Malé Area is a key electoral pledge of President Dr Muizzu.
