President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has issued official decrees amending the administrative jurisdictions of Addu City, Addu Hulhudhoo, and Addu Meedhoo.

The decision follows the public referendum held on 25 October 2025 among residents of Feydhoo, Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo, which sought to restructure the Addu City Council. As a result, the jurisdiction of Addu City has been redefined, while Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo, previously within its jurisdiction, have been designated as separate inhabited islands.

The amendments were enacted through Presidential Decrees No. 3/2026, 4/2026 and 5/2026, issued pursuant to the authority granted to the President under Section 56-1(a) of the Decentralisation Act (Act No. 7/2010), which provides for the determination and designation of the jurisdictions of City and Island Councils.

In accordance with the decrees, revised charts reflecting the updated administrative jurisdictions of Addu City, Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo have been codified and published in the Government Gazette.
