President Dr Mohamed Muizzu attended the official function held this evening in R. Dhuvaafaru to mark the 45th National Fishermen’s Day.
During the function, key initiatives aimed at developing the fisheries sector were launched. A significant agreement was also signed to establish a fish purchasing facility in Kan’dholhudhoo, which will be equipped with cold storage and a specialised facility for grouper.
Other key initiatives launched this evening included a new module on the Keyolhu application, designed to enable fishermen to easily check the availability of ice at ice plants. Also introduced were the Bank of Maldives (BML) Masveriyaa Portal, the From Maldives website, the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company’s (MIFCO) Mas Kiraa application, and the sustainable livebait fishery management plan.
In addition, President Dr Muizzu presented awards recognising parties who have rendered distinguished service to the fisheries industry, as well as individuals, companies, fishing vessels, and fishermen who made outstanding contributions to the sector during 2023 and 2024.
This year’s Fishermen’s Day was celebrated at the national level in Dhuvaafaru. To mark the occasion with festivity and significance, a series of fisheries-related activities, including a Fishermen’s Forum, were held on the island.
The President was accompanied at the function by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed. Also in attendance were Cabinet Ministers, senior Government officials, residents of Dhuvaafaru, and a large number of stakeholders from the fisheries industry.
