His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reiterated the Maldives' steadfast commitment to upholding human dignity, justice, and equality as the nation joins the global community in marking Human Rights Day 2025.

In a message issued today, the President emphasised that human rights form the foundation of peace and sustainable development. He observed that these rights are not abstract ideals but essential protections that must be guaranteed for every individual to live with dignity and hope.

President Dr Muizzu pointed to the Maldives' continued progress in promoting and safeguarding human rights both domestically and internationally. He underscored the Government's efforts to expand access to essential public services, including education, healthcare, and social welfare, while strengthening legal and institutional frameworks to ensure equality, protect vulnerable communities, and uphold fundamental freedoms.

The President also noted that the Maldives remains a strong advocate for human rights on the global stage, particularly through its active role at the United Nations Human Rights Council. He drew attention to the country's leadership in key resolutions, dialogues, and decisions aimed at strengthening international protections and advancing the rights of people worldwide. This engagement, he said, reflects the Maldives' conviction that these rights know no borders and that nations must work together to safeguard them.

Addressing the situation in Palestine, President Dr Muizzu stressed that the indivisibility of human rights means they cannot be upheld globally while being denied to any segment of humanity. He described the ongoing denial of fundamental rights to the Palestinian people as a profound violation of justice, human dignity, and international law, and reaffirmed the Maldives' unwavering support for the Palestinian people in the pursuit of their rights, including the right to self-determination.

Marking the significance of the day, President Dr Muizzu called on the public to renew their commitment to justice, equality, and compassion.

Human Rights Day is observed annually on 10 December to raise awareness and promote human rights around the world.
