President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has described Maldives 2.0 – launched to provide prompt, safe, and transparent services to the public – as an initiative that will redefine the nation’s trajectory.
He made the remarks while addressing the nation at the ‘Rayyithunnaa Eku Kuriah – Hafthaa 104’ function, held to mark the second anniversary of his Administration’s tenure.
As a flagship initiative of the President, Maldives 2.0 seeks to integrate all State institutions and advance the nation’s digital transformation. Maldives Immigration is the first Government office to undergo full digitalisation under the initiative. President Dr Muizzu highlighted that some services of the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) have already been digitalised, with the healthcare sector poised to deliver transformative services to the public once all its services are digitised.
Acknowledging that it is human nature to meet change with caution, the President urged all stakeholders to work together to build the Maldives as a “Digital First Nation.” He noted that digitalisation would be a priority in the 2026 budget and anticipated that it would deliver some of the year’s most significant outcomes.
President Dr Muizzu further emphasised that Maldives 2.0 would serve as a powerful tool against corruption while ensuring that the benefits of the digital economy are accessible to all. He linked the initiative to the Government’s broader vision of achieving developed nation status by 2040, stressing that progress depends on actively engaging with citizens to understand their aspirations.
Highlighting his outreach efforts, the President noted that he has visited all inhabited islands and met with local communities. He assured that similar consultations would soon take place in Malé City, Villimale’, and Hulhumalé, and provided updates on recent meetings with business owners to support inclusive development.
President Dr Muizzu underlined the Government’s commitment to sustainable development through the 20-year National Development Plan, noting that all strategies had been formulated through extensive consultations and supported by relevant statistics.
Concluding his speech, the President expressed appreciation for the efforts undertaken by his Administration and reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling the aspirations of the Maldivian people. He stated that results would be the measure of his achievements.
