President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the Administration’s primary objective is to resolve critical national issues at their very roots to ensure sustainable, permanent outcomes.
The President made these remarks while speaking at the ‘Rayyithunnaa Eku Kuriah – Hafthaa 104’ official function, held this evening at the Maldives Centre for Social Education (MCSE) to commemorate the Administration’s second anniversary.
Expressing his absolute confidence that Maldivian youth desire a life free from the scourges of drugs and gang crime, the President outlined his key policy: to rescue young people from these circumstances and support their reintegration into mainstream society. He highlighted that the strategy to eradicate these issues is structured around disrupting the drug supply chains, facilitating rehabilitation, and ensuring that young people are reintegrated to lead dignified lives.
The President reiterated his strong appeal to the youth trapped in cycles of drug abuse and gang culture to distance themselves from these harmful habits and commit to serving themselves, their families, and the nation. He further urged them to take full advantage of the rehabilitation and reintegration opportunities currently available to them.
Highlighting the avenues open to young people, the President shared detailed statistics and information regarding the Maldives National Service, the National Apprenticeship Programme, the Community Upskilling Programme, and various Government financial assistance schemes during the function.
Beyond the initiatives designed to secure a dignified livelihood for the youth, the President’s speech also covered key highlights in the sports and fitness sectors. He reflected on the progress of initiatives at the community level, as well as the strategic work being undertaken to develop well-rounded, holistic athletes.
Regarding community-level development, the President highlighted the successful project to establish a Fitness and Recreation Centre on every island in the Maldives. Through his presentation, he shared the latest statistics and progress updates on these facilities.
The President also commended the continued success of athletes across various disciplines. Discussing the efforts to nurture holistic athletes, he noted the introduction of the first amendment to the Sports Act, the increase in remuneration for athletes and officials, and the provision of health insurance for national team players and officials commencing in 2026.
Furthermore, the President announced plans to establish a High-Performance Centre in the Maldives next year, describing this as the single most significant step towards the advancement of national sports.
