President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the year 2026 will be dedicated to strengthening governance and establishing a corruption-free system in the Maldives.
He made the remarks at the official Republic Day ceremony held this morning at the Maldives Centre for Social Education.
In his address, the President highlighted that one of the main priorities of the 2026 State Budget is to deliver public services through Maldives 2.0 initiative, a fully digitalised system. He noted that this transition represents a crucial step towards achieving transparency and accountability in public service delivery.
The President affirmed that the comprehensive work of Maldives 2.0 will continue throughout 2026. The three-year initiative is expected to be completed by mid-2028.
Emphasising the importance of integrity in governance, the President stated that, in a republic, the foundation of effective public service lies in ensuring transparency, fairness, and equity. He identified corruption as the main obstacle to these principles and stressed that digitalisation remains the most effective means of addressing it. The President also underscored the importance of youth engagement and cooperation in implementing and sustaining digitalised public services.
Reiterating his Administration’s commitment to eradicating corruption, the President affirmed that strengthening governance through greater transparency and accountability remains a top national priority. He described Maldives 2.0 as one of the Administration’s most ambitious undertakings in this regard.
Concluding his address, the President called for collective effort towards shared national goals and reaffirmed his dedication to fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to him by the people with sincerity and integrity. He expressed appreciation for the contributions of civil servants and the public in advancing the nation’s progress, and extended his gratitude to all recipients of the National Awards for their dedicated service and achievements that have brought honour to the Maldives.
