President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced the expansion of the Kan'ditheemu Health Centre, which will be upgraded to a two-storey facility with a 20-bed capacity and a significantly broader range of services.
The President made the announcement while meeting with residents of Kan'ditheemu during his ongoing tour of inhabited islands in North Miladhunmadulu Atoll. He revealed that the project would be outsourced to a new contractor and represents a key step towards realising his commitment to transform the Kan'ditheemu Health Centre into a regional healthcare hub.
As part of his visit, President Dr Muizzu has been delivering on several pledges made to the residents of Kan'ditheemu. In this regard, the foundation stone for the new Bank of Maldives Kan'ditheemu Branch was laid today, with completion expected by March next year.
At today’s gathering, several additional agreements were signed to advance Kan'ditheemu’s development. These included two projects requested by the Island Council during the President’s 2024 visit: a comprehensive road development project and a coastal protection initiative. Physical work also commenced on both a Fitness and Recreation Centre and a new Police Station for the island.
The President further stated that relevant authorities are working to extend water, sewerage, and electricity services to newly reclaimed areas in Kan'ditheemu and other islands across the country. He also confirmed that upgrading the island’s football pitch to meet modern standards will be included in next year’s national budget.
