President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has delivered on a key presidential pledge with the successful nationwide launch of national identity card (ID) printing and issuance, alongside passport services, across all atolls of the Maldives.

The nationwide rollout was officially marked this evening in ADh. Mahibadhoo, coinciding with the President’s ongoing tour of South Ariatholhu. During the event, Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan inaugurated the new passport service on the island.

In line with the President’s commitment to decentralising essential public services, the rollout of ID card printing and issuance across all atolls was completed on 19 September, concluding with V. Felidhoo. During his meeting with Felidhoo residents, the President emphasised that decentralising such services aims to end the long-standing dependency of island communities on the capital, Malé.

With the commencement of passport issuance in Mahibadhoo tonight, all atolls in the Maldives are now equipped with both ID card printing and issuance facilities, as well as passport services, achieving this milestone three months ahead of schedule.

To commemorate the occasion, Minister Ihusaan presented President Dr Muizzu with a plaque marking the nationwide completion of these services during a meeting with residents at the ADh. Atoll Education Centre.

This achievement underscores the Administration’s dedication to empowering local communities and advancing decentralisation across the Maldives – ensuring that citizens can access essential services without the financial and logistical burden of travelling to Malé.
