President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has guaranteed that the Government is committed to taking all necessary measures to resolve the housing allocation issue in Dhigurah in a manner aligned with the preferences of the local community. He made this announcement while addressing the community, during his ongoing tour of the inhabited islands of South Ariatholhu.
Shedding light on the importance of identifying a solution to the housing issue, the President acknowledged that the existing land-use plan and related guidelines are not without shortcomings. He noted the community’s request to allocate additional land for housing plots and assured that the Government will support redesigning the land-use plan to include 50 new plots, ensuring the revisions reflect the community’s needs.
He further announced that the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure will review and revise the relevant guidelines to ensure fairness and equity, and will subsequently share the updated framework with the Island Council. The President also directed the Council to undertake transparent public consultations upon receipt of the revised plan and to finalise it thereafter, ensuring that the process reflects community perspectives.
The President also highlighted the additional development initiatives earmarked for implementation in Dhigurah under the 2026 national budget, which include the construction of an accommodation block for expatriate workers and the establishment of a state-of-the-art football stadium.
During the visit, the President witnessed the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Police Post and the commencement of physical works for the coastal protection project. In addition, the Health Centre Office Building was officially inaugurated as part of the visit. He also presided over the signing of agreements pertaining to road development and school upgrading projects.
