His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu emphasised that China has consistently stood alongside the Maldives and other small island states in promoting sustainability, resilience, and fairness in the global arena. He made the remarks at a reception held to mark the 79th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the Mid-Autumn Festival.
In his address, President Dr Muizzu extended his warmest congratulations and best wishes to His Excellency President Xi Jinping, the Government, and the people of China on the occasion of their National Day. He expressed the Maldives’ deep appreciation of China’s commitment to multilateralism, its role in championing the rights of developing nations, and its willingness to work with the Maldives to shape a world where no country, however small, is left behind.
Reflecting on China’s history, the President described it as a story of vision, perseverance, and the boundless potential of the human spirit. He noted that the relationship between the Maldives and China is not only expressed through agreements and exchanges but also through shared experiences, journeys, and the trust that genuine friendship fosters.
He highlighted that this friendship is evident across the Maldives: in the bridges that connect communities, the housing that shelters families, and the classrooms where young Maldivians prepare for the future. It is also reflected, he said, in the thousands of Chinese visitors who continue to choose the Maldives as their holiday destination, making tourism not just an industry but a living bridge between the two nations.
Concluding his remarks, President Dr Muizzu affirmed that the Maldives looks forward to further strengthening its partnership with China in politics, trade, culture, and education, as well as in the shared aspiration for a sustainable and prosperous future.
