President Dr Mohamed Muizzu stressed that the coming days will be crucial for the development of M. Dhiggaru, outlining planned initiatives focused on housing and population consolidation to support the island’s growth. He made the remarks while addressing residents of the island as part of his ongoing tour of four atolls.
The President announced that the first housing project for Dhiggaru will see the construction of 75 housing units this year. He added that the Administration intends to launch a second project of 75 units before the first is completed, noting that planning for both initiatives is already underway.
Turning to harbour facilities, the President observed that extensive renovations and upgrades are required, pledging to prioritise the harbour’s development early next year.
He also pledged to resolve space constraints at the island’s school, stating that next year’s budget will include allocations for a new nine-classroom building and a multi-purpose hall.
Acknowledging Dhiggaru’s on the fisheries sector, the President reaffirmed his commitment to advancing sustainable developments in the national fisheries sector, which will in turn benefit Dhiggaru’s fishing community. He added that such systematic reforms will take time and should not be seen as a retreat from the pledges he has made.
Concluding his address, President Dr Muizzu assured residents that the coming years will bring significant progress across education, health, sports, infrastructure, and housing.
