President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has revealed that Alifu Alifu Atoll Maafaru lagoon to be designated as part of Feridhoo. He made the announcement while meeting residents of Feridhoo today, during his tour of the inhabited islands of Alifu Alifu Atoll.

Acknowledging the signing ceremonies for the development of the boat docking area and the picnic island, the President disclosed that the picnic area would be developed in Maafaru lagoon. The President stated that the future development of the tourism-dependent Feridhoo island lies in reaping economic benefits by utilising Maafaru lagoon.

During the visit, two additional agreements were signed: one for the construction of an extension to the Feridhoo Health Centre, and another for the formal handover of the multipurpose hall and infrastructure works at the Alifu Alifu Atoll School.

Referring to the ongoing development of the Atoll School, the President pledged to address existing challenges by equipping the school with the necessary facilities and supporting human resource development as required. He further announced that the required infrastructure works for the school would commence within the next three months.

The President noted that, given Feridhoo is the second most populous island in the atoll, particular attention would be directed towards enhancing the infrastructure and strengthening the human resources of its Health Centre.

President Dr Muizzu announced that road construction and the project to address issues with the harbour channel would commence within the year. He further noted that the completion of the football stadium, the fitness and recreation centre, as well as the outdoor gym, is also scheduled for this year.

Highlighting that the construction of the mosque is pending land allocation, President Dr Muizzu stated that work would commence as soon as the land is allotted, following a re-poll to resolve public disagreements on the matter. He also noted that the Outreach Centre of the Quran Centre is expected to be completed in the near future.

Although the construction of a new police station is currently underway, the President announced that three police officers would be deployed to Feridhoo within the week to maintain law and order on the island in the interim.

During his ongoing tour of the islands in Alifu Alifu Atoll, the President inaugurated the water and sewerage network on Feridhoo today.

The President stated that the purpose of his visits to the islands is to bring governance closer to the people, reaffirming his commitment to fulfilling his pledges in line with their aspirations.
