His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Monday reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to working closely with Sri Lanka in pursuit of shared aspirations; uplifting lives, strengthening peace and progress, and fostering a future grounded in solidarity and a common vision.

He made the remarks at a state banquet held in honour of His Excellency Anura Kumara Disanayaka, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, who is currently undertaking a state visit to the Maldives.

In his address, President Dr Muizzu noted that the relationship between the Maldives and Sri Lanka extends well beyond neighbourly ties. Reflecting on six decades of diplomatic relations, he emphasised that the bond between the two nations is deeply rooted in shared history, common values, and the close kinship of the people.

The President highlighted the warmth, hospitality, and generosity of the Sri Lankan people, which, he said continue to leave a lasting impression on Maldivians. He also underscored the evolution of economic and developmental cooperation between the two countries, which has expanded into areas such as tourism, digital technology, security, and cultural exchange. These collaborative efforts, he noted, span both economics and social spheres, reflecting the dynamism of bilateral ties and a shared ambition to meet the demands of a rapidly changing world. President Dr Muizzu also reflected upon earlier discussions held between the two delegations, describing them as meaningful and productive.

He concluded his remarks by expressing confidence in the potential for deeper cooperation and reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to working with Sri Lanka to unlock new opportunities, promote inclusive prosperity, advance sustainable development, and ensure regional stability.
