His Excellency Anura Kumara Disanayaka, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, was accorded a ceremonial welcome in the Maldives on Monday.
The ceremony commenced at Republic Square, where His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu received President Disanayaka.
This was followed by a cultural performance by students, after which the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) rendered a ceremonial 21-gun salute. The national anthems of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the Republic of Maldives were then played, after which President Disanayaka inspected the Guard of Honour. This was followed by the introduction of dignitaries from both the host and visiting delegations.
This is President Disanayaka’s first state visit to the Maldives since assuming office in September 2024.
The Maldives established diplomatic relations with Sri Lanka on 26 July 1965, and this year commemorates the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations.
