His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and the Prime Minister of India, His Excellency Shri Narendra Modi, jointly officiated the virtual inauguration of several major development projects, further strengthening the longstanding partnership between the Maldives and India.
The ceremony commenced with the symbolic handover of 72 vehicles from the government of India to the Ministry of Defence of the Maldives. President Dr Muizzu and Prime Minister Modi participated in a ceremonial key handover, following a short video presentation showcasing the vehicles and their significance.
The leaders also commemorated the ceremonial handover of 4,000 housing units financed under the government of India’s Buyer’s Credit facility. Of these, 700 units had already been officially handed over during President Dr Muizzu’s state visit to India in October 2024. A video presentation on the housing project preceded the virtual handover.
The event further featured the virtual inauguration of the Addu Roads Project, a major infrastructure initiative funded through the government of India’s Line of Credit. The project is expected to significantly improve road safety and connectivity in Addu City.
Reinforcing development at the community level, the leaders inaugurated six High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs), financed through grant assistance from India. These include:
- Outdoor Gym at S. Hithadhoo Rasgedhara
- Outdoor Gym at S. Hithadhoo Beyrumathi
- Outdoor Gym at GDh. Vaadhoo
- Youth centre at GA. Gemanafushi
- Volleyball court at Sh. Kanditheemu
