His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has concluded his visit to the United Kingdom and returned to Malé today.
During the visit, the President held comprehensive discussions with senior British officials, including the Rt Hon Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP, Speaker of the House of Commons, and the Rt Hon David Lammy MP, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs. These discussions focused on critical areas such as climate adaptation, education and scholarship opportunities, sustainable fisheries and tourism, and continued UK support for justice sector reform.
The President also had a private audience with His Majesty King Charles III at Windsor Castle, reaffirming the strong commitment to further strengthening the enduring Maldives–UK partnership, which spans six decades.
Additionally, the President met the Hon Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, and discussed ways to advance cooperation on areas of mutual benefit.
President Dr Muizzu also participated in the Maldives–UK Business Forum, which highlighted opportunities to enhance trade and investment ties between the two countries. As part of the forum, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the West London Chambers of Commerce and the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade.
Furthermore, the Maldives’ fisheries promotion brand, From Maldives, was officially launched to raise the profile of Maldivian fisheries products in international markets.
This significant visit commemorated 60 years of diplomatic relations and further strengthened the close friendship between the two countries.
