The Non-Resident Ambassador of Spain to the Maldives, His Excellency Juan Antonio March Pujol, presented his Letter of Credence to His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, at a ceremony held this morning at the President's Office.
The Ambassador was escorted to the President’s Office from Republic Square in a cultural procession, “Haiykolhu," accompanied by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band.
Following the presentation of credentials, the President and the Ambassador discussed mutual interests, including trade, technology, and economic development. The President also acknowledged the significant number of tourist arrivals from Spain and expressed optimism for continued growth, particularly with the improved connectivity anticipated from the opening of the new terminal at Velana International Airport.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to working closely together to explore new avenues of cooperation that would contribute to the mutual prosperity and well-being of both nations.
Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Spain were established on August 25, 1979.
