The Non-Resident High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus to the Maldives, His Excellency Evagoras Vryonides, presented his Letter of Credence to His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, at a ceremony held this morning at the President's Office.

The High Commissioner was escorted to the President’s Office from Republic Square in a cultural procession, “Haiykolhu," accompanied by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band.

Following the presentation of credentials, the President and the High Commissioner discussed mutual interests, including trade, tourism, and the expansion of educational cooperation. They also expressed hope for further strengthening cooperation in the health care sector.

The meeting emphasised the importance of fostering people-to-people connections and highlighted the mutual benefits of exchanging students and professionals, particularly in tourism, given that Cyprus is also an island nation with shared experiences and opportunities in this field.

Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Cyprus were established on November 1, 1987.
